Before world politics made international travel more challenging, many friends asked when to visit us and check out Lisbon. Summer months are great for the island beaches, but Lisbon is crowded, warm, and much busier. My caveat always remains, “I have never had a bad day in Lisbon!”
Virtually every trip includes a day trip to the Tower of Belem, the Monument to the Discoveries, and especially the Monastery. Extremely large, it was designed and built by many of the great names of Archtecture of Europe, and it’s magnificent. I have to admit it is one of my very favorite places in Europe to visit, next to Melk Abbey in Austria.
So think about a day on in Lisbon for this when you visit; and it is also a short walk to the cafe where they developed the msot famous snack in Portugal, Pasteis da Nata. You’ll never forget the day!
